Bibergadi Irrigation Scheme: Chhattisgarh’s irrigation scheme is going to be resumed after 45 years. Its name is the Beeprafsedi irrigation project. This irrigation project in Medeli village in Kariyanband district has been closed for decades. But now it has been destroyed the way it resumes. State Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has issued a directive. The Chief Minister ordered it to start and complete it soon. With the start of the project, more than 5000 farmers and its surrounding areas will benefit directly in the village of Medeli. These farmers can get water for agriculture. This will increase their cultivation yield and increase revenues.
The irrigation project was launched in 1977 by the construction of the Kungutty Drainage Dam, which will provide irrigation facilities to the surrounding villages. However, as the Forest Act was implemented in 1980, the work was halted, causing the environment was not cleaned. Since then, this project is incomplete for decades, which has tarnished the confidence of the local farmers here.
Center approves the project
Recently, the central government has approved the project. After this, Chief Minister Sai announced its application during the ‘Nallakshi Tihar Peace Camp’. He said, “This is not just a plan, but the success of the peasant struggle, patience and hope. This is the true sense of goodwill – bringing true changes in the lives of people.”
Once the project is completed, farmers will get permanent irrigation facilities, increase crop yields and promote economic conditions. Farmers of the region, which have been dependent on rain for many years, are now expecting continuous water supply. The project is also an important step towards the strong growth of the region.
Farmers waiting for the project
However, the biggest challenges are to complete the tasks of this irrigation scheme in a timely manner and ensure that all qualified farmers benefit. The locals believe that Chief Minister Sai’s announcement will be turned into a real step and that the water will finally reach their fields – not just the documents.
