The US fee affected the sheep of Himachal

US President Donald Trump has recently announced a 26 per cent fee for all imported goods from India that affects the sheep shepherds and their economy in Himachal Pradesh. Farmers who produce Baijnath and Bada Panchal farmers export about 2.5 lakh kg of organic wool every year to the US of the Kankra district. This export provides good benefits to sheep shepherds, but because of the new fee, this business is facing a crisis.

Baijnath FBO President Akshay Jasrotia said that the impact of the new fee imposed by the US president is evaluating. Since only 10 percent of these countries have been charged, he said that 26 per cent fees would be difficult for him to compete with wool production countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Peru and Turkey.

Expect the help of federal government

Akshay Jasrotia also said, “We have approached American companies that import wool from us. They also estimate the situation from the new fee notification. We expect the help of the federal government to resolve this crisis.”

With the help of the Paijnath FPO, the wool biological certificates of sheep shepherds were certified, and then American companies started buying wool from them. The first Himachal Pradesh Wool Federation sells wool at a rate of Rs. In addition, US companies also pay the car prices to the FPO, so that the wool can be sent from the Kankra district forests to New Delhi.

Expect subsidy from government

However, after the US president has imposed 26 percent of the fees, Baijnath’s FPO and Bata Panchal face a tough challenge. Jasrotia said, “We expect this situation to deal with the government’s subsidy, so that we can compete against the wool from other countries.”

A few years ago, about 2.5 lakh kilos of organic wool were exported from the Bajnath to the United States. Now, the US president’s 26 percent fee will increase the price of wool from India, which will cause damage to sheep and shepherds in the Kankra and Samba districts.
