The Kosi-Machi Interstate Connection Program has obtained the approval of the central government, which provides irrigation facilities to Northern Bihar farmers. The approval of this project during the election year is a great gift for the people of North Bihar. This project is approved under the PMKSY-ABP of the Pradhan Minister’s Agricultural Irrigation Scheme.

It is estimated at Rs 6 thousand 282 crore 32 lakhs, including Bihar to Rs 3 thousand 652 crore 56 lakhs.

How much is the Kosi-Machi Interstate Connection Program for Northern Bihar

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Kosi-Machi has long tried to get approval of the Interstate Connection Project. During the floods of the Kosi-Mechi connection project, the Kosi water supply will be transported through the connection to the Mechi River. This will help a lot in managing floods. Under this scheme, the existing East Kosi main canal (EKMC) will be held at 41.30 km and EKMC. It will provide additional irrigation facilities in 2 lakhs 10 thousand 516 hectares in the districts of Arya, Purnia, Kishanganj, Kathihar, Kakaria, Madhupura and Kathihar. Through this, the current order of the East Kosi main canal will be restored.

Once the Kosi-Machi Interstate Connection Project is completed, 2050 million cubic meters of Kosi water can be diverted during the monsoon season. With the reconstruction of the existing East Kosi Main Canal (EKMC) in the Kosi-Mechi Interstate, it has been replaced to expand a portion of the Kosi River surplus water, which will be expanded in the Mahananda Basin in Piyar and the RD 11.07 km to 11 km. Thus, the Kosi and the Mechi rivers flow through Bihar can be attached to Bihar simultaneously.

Received approval under Prime Minister Modi

The Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs (CCEA) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the inclusion of the Bihar’s Kosi-Machi Interstate Connection under the Prime Minister’s Agricultural Irrigation Scheme and the Water Power Ministry’s Irrigation Benefits Scheme (BMKSY AIP). The PMC Agricultural Irrigation Project (PMKSY) was launched in 2015-16. The aim is to increase the body access to the fields and to expand the farms under the stabilized irrigation. In addition, it is included in the field of water utility performance and the implementation of permanent water safety procedures.
