Paddy procurement in Odisha is going to begin on Thursday, May 1 in the current rabbi season. Since May, paddy will be purchased in 20 of the 30 districts of the state, and runs until June 2025. The government has set a target of buying 14 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) paddy within 48 hours of the current rabbi season. Like the Carif season, farmers will get Rs 2,300 for quintal support (MSP) and a quintal input of Rs. This amount will be transferred directly to the farmers’ account.
On Friday, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja made the decision at the state level procurement committee meeting. Collectors from 20 districts participated in video conferencing. The meeting was attended by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of the Department of Food Distribution and Consumer Welfare. He described the outline of problems for discussion.
3.37 lakh farmers registered
About 16.60 lakh farmers were purchased from about 16.60 lakh farmers in the last karif season, for which the minimum support price (MSP) was Rs 16,853 crore and Rs. 16,853 crore. Singh said the paddy purchased for the current Rabbi season would run from May 1 to June 30.
About 3.37 lakh farmers have registered for sale at Paddy MSP, the official said. This year, there will be a total of 20 districts of paddy in 20 districts with the newly added Kandamal, Sundarkar and Badrak districts. The procurement process includes 965 primary agricultural cooperation and 200 Self -Help Groups (SHGs).

The Chief Secretary has asked the collector of 20 districts not to lose the purchase of paddy. In addition, the authorities have been asked to sort Nodal officers and supervisors for the immediate Mandis, where all the facilities will be available to the farmers. CCTV will be fitted to all purchase centers
The Chief Secretary said that a CCTV camera will be installed at each procurement center (Mandi). Vehicle surveillance system is mandatory for each vehicle carrying paddy from Mandi to Mill. District collectors have been asked to make special arrangements for the safety of paddy in view of seasonal rain and heat. Also, special groups will be used in the border districts to monitor the exterior vehicles carrying paddy during purchases.
