Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Brahlat Joshi has stressed that there is no shortage of essential commodities in the country. He said, “I would like to assure that it has many more shares of more than normal need – it is rice, wheat or gram, pigeon, lentils or pulses.
The Union Minister has issued a serious warning to the people not to come under the guise of confusion. In his tweet, he said, “Do not rely on false news about food shops in the country. We have enough food grains. They are more than normal needs. Don’t pay attention to such messages. Merchants, wholesalers, retailers or professional organizations are advised to cooperate with the management.
Adequate stock of wheat and rice in the country
Currently, rice share in the country is 356.42 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) against 135 LMT interruption rules. Similarly, wheat stock is 383.32 LMD against 276 LMD buffer rules. Thus, food security is ensured across the country with surplus food grains. Apart from this, there is currently about 17 LMD food oil share in India. At the domestic level, the availability of mustard oil during the current peak season is sufficient, which further enhances the eating oil.
There is no dearth of sugar
The current Chinese season started with 79 lakh metric tonnes of carrie-over shares. Considering the distraction of 34 lakh metric tonnes of ethanol production, the production is estimated at 262 lakh metric tonnes.

So far, about 257 lakh metric tonnes of sugar has been produced. With domestic consumption in mind the exports of 28 million metric tonnes and 10 lakh metric tonnes, the final share is expected to be about 50 million metric tons, which for more than two months. 2025-26 Production forecast for the Chinese season is good due to favorable climate.
