Farmers on the banks of the Brahmin river in Odisha’s Thenkanal district have been cultivating a unique type of ‘Frost Pagana’ from generations. Local people say this specialty history is hundreds of years. Like Nayakar’s Gandhimundi pruning, now the GI of this special crop is now. Whether the rich or poor is the common vegetable in every household, but the Frost Brink is very different from its taste and heritage.
Weigh up to 1 kg
The Frost Prinjal, which comes from the south, is mainly grown near the Thenkal-Kamagya road on the banks of the Brahmin river. They are particularly cultivated in villages like Kamakara and Kanabala. The farmers of these areas have been cultivating this crop for centuries. According to the Odisha TV report, Bringer is cultivated from generations. A farmer’s friend Malik said, ‘We are growing it. Its quality is very special and it is unusual. It is not cultivated in another state or other districts of Odisha. The weight of each princess is 500 to 700 g. It is supplied in many areas from the Tenkal market. People find it and enjoy eating it.
Taste is very pleasant and special
Another farmer said Ada Mallik, the weight of two freezing prinjals may be up to a kilogram. About 25 to 30 farmers are involved in these types of agriculture. Its taste is sweet and very good. Its price is up to Rs 70 per kg in the local market. Amidst the increasing concerns of the disappearance of traditional seeds, farmers continue to protect and continue to develop Bringer Prinjal using the oldest methods of centuries. The seeds are first sown in beds and then transferred. Crop is grown by organic fertilizer and dung. Its harvest period is usually from Diwali to March-April.
Only 3-4 villages are cultivated
Local intellectual Shishir Satpati said, “This type is grown in only three to four villages near Kamakara. People here have been raising it for about 500 years. It is the original species of this area and it cannot be raised elsewhere. Nayakar’s Gandhimundi Brinka is the GI for its quality. For this, the administration is G.I.
Attempts fail to grow in a different place
A local agricultural scientist is a group of farmers who develop it. He confirmed that he was in the process of applying to the Registry Commission. The scientist of Devenkanal Krishi Vijian Kendra, said Pamalendu Mohandi, that Frost Prinjal is cultivated in sandy soil and has been grown here for centuries. Geological and environmental conditions are important for its development. Attempts to grow it elsewhere have failed. Although there are many attempts to grow, Brinka has become very difficult or has not been properly increased. Its taste is very good and it is widely used in many types of Odia foods.
