Father Michelino Roberto, a spokesman for the São Paulo diocese, shared his views about the next range of choosing the new Pope. According to him, this process will be distinguished by more ability to predict and challenges, mainly due to the diversity of the participating Cardinals.
Roberto indicated that for the first time in the centuries, there will be no majority of Europeans with voting rights. This change in the formation of the College of Cardinal reflects the efforts of Pope Francis to expand the global representation of the Catholic Church.
The spokesman explained that many Cardinals, including the Brazilians, will participate in the first round. This lack of experience, along with the fact that many do not know each other can make the process more complicated and perhaps longer.
“From a humanitarian point of view, I think it will be a little more challenge, and a little more difficult,” said Roberto. He compared this domain with the previous center, recalling that the election of Bento VI was quickly, while John Paul II took eight checks.
The priest stressed the importance of public gatherings in front of the side. These meetings, which were held with the open microphone, will allow the cruise to know each other better and discuss the main pastoral challenges that the Church is currently facing.
