A Environmental Committee (CMA) of the Federal Senate On Tuesday (29), he approved a request for a technical visit to Belém, a city hosting the thirtieth United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) in 2025.

Care has been suggested by the committee chairman, Senator Fabiano Constarat (PT-SES), and aims to personally follow up preparations for the largest climate event on this planet.

In justifying the request, Senator stressed the importance of COP30 for Brazil, especially in the context of global climate emergency.

“COP30 will be an international offer that requires an institutional commitment, environmental responsibility, and no flawless logistical organization. Parliament must fulfill its supervisory role and ensure that the obligations offered by the country are fulfilled by transparency and seriousness,” Senator said.

According to him, the visit will allow a more accurate technical evaluation of the ongoing procedures in the capital of the paragraph. In addition, Senators must meet with local authorities, specialists and civil society representatives to discuss progress and challenges in events planning.

CMA also pointed out that care will be essential to ensure that preparations are in line with the principles of sustainability, environmental justice and social inclusion.

“Our role is to make sure that this is a policeman with the Amazon face: a variety, the plural form, is committed to the people of the forest and the future of the planet.”

What is Cop30?

COP30 will be held in November 2025 in Belem, bringing the first edition of the conference its headquarters in the Brazilian Amazon.

This event is expected to bring together more than 30,000 participants, including heads of state, scientists, indigenous, Nazarene leaders, businessmen and civil society representatives all over the world.

COP30 focuses on discussing concrete measures to reduce global warming, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing climate adaptation and financing policies organized by the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC)

Preparations

Since the official announcement of the headquarters in 2023, the federal government, in partnership with the Bara government and the Bilim City Hall, has been promoting a series of measures to prepare the city’s infrastructure.

Among the main axes are urban movement, sanitation, communication, public safety and hotel capacity. Para capital has already received more than 4.5 billion investments.

In addition to structural works, Brazil works in building a strong climate agenda that reflects the country’s obligations to transmit energy, reduce the removal of forests and sustainable development with social justice.

The history of the technical visit of the Senate members will remain specific, but it is expected to happen in the coming months, before international preparatory meetings before COP30.
