Russian President, Vladimir PutinOn Sunday, he suggested that he had lived direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15, but avoided responding to the European suggestion in a 30 -day high fire.
On Saturday, the leaders of Germany, France, Poland and the United Kingdom met with Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski in Kiev and threatened Moscow with new sanctions and more military support for Ukraine if the proposal did not accept.
The Russian president did not refer directly to this warning in his statement, which he made at dawn in the Kremlin, and focused on his opposite explanation of the new negotiations between the two countries.
“We suggest that Kiev authorities resume the talks that erupted in 2022, and I confirm, without any previous condition,” he said.
Russian and Ukrainian negotiators held direct talks in Istanbul in the first weeks of the conflict, but they failed to stop fighting.
“We suggest that we start them without delaying Thursday, May 15 in Istanbul,” said Putin, who said that he would call his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to help his organization.
Putin added: “We do not rule out that during these talks, we can agree on a new type of fire,” without referring to the proposal, criticized in “warning” and “European anti -spirit discourse.”
“We are determined to have serious negotiations (…) to eliminate the roots of the conflict and establish a permanent peace,” I insisted.
Russian references usually mean “the roots of conflict” in Ukraine, a wide range of grievances towards Kiev and the West, which usually justify the launch of the attack in February 2022.
Some of them are the alleged need for “Denazify” Ukraine, protecting Russian speakers in the east of the country, or expanding NATO to the Russian border or geopolitical turn to Kev towards the West.
War in Ukraine
The war began in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a large -scale invasion against its neighbor under the controversy of “canceling judges” and “cherishing” the country. Since then, the conflict has caused thousands of deaths and millions of strong humanitarian crisis in Eastern Europe.
Kiev, with the support of the West, resisted Russian progress and regained the part of the occupied territories, while Moscow intensified attacks with missiles, drones and artillery, especially in the east and southern Ukraine. The peace negotiations, which failed in 2022, have not been resumed directly.
We recommend: I will deny the plan to provide jugs to Russia despite our warnings.
The international community, led by the United States and the European Union, imposed strong sanctions on Russia and sent military and economic assistance to Ukraine. Putin’s latest proposal to the meeting in Istanbul opens an unconfirmed window towards the potential reactivation of diplomatic dialogue.
