Every year, on the fifth Sunday of Lent, San Miguel de Alende is one of its most cherished traditions: our Lord of the passage. This annual pilgrimage is seen by the life -level statue of Christ made from the traditional Sichimaga items brought to the city by more than 25,000 believers, and they are walking to Templo de San Deos in San Miguel, 12 kilometers from Santuvario de Jesses Nazareno in Adodonil.
The journey begins at midnight, as lights and candles are illuminated by balloons, flowers and colorful sawdust carpets.
This religious procession has been a cherished local tradition since 1823, and residents have brought the statue from Adodonilko to seek protection from an infection. The pilgrimage has continued for more than 200 years, and even during the Mexican Revolution and Crystaro war, the statue had to be taken secretly to avoid confiscation or destruction.
The city’s northern gateway, gathering at dawn, and Templo de San Juan de Dieos, and Easter will be in San Miguel until Wednesday, a special mass will be held at 8 am.
