In Punjab, private traders have emerged as big players during this rabbi season. If you believe in a media report, for the first time in the state, private traders have purchased 10.79 lakh metric tonnes of wheat. This is the first time that the private sector in the state has purchased such a large amount of wheat from farmers. Under this purchase, farmers have been paid more than 200 rupees than the minimum support price (MSP). It is said that the most wheat private traders have bought more wheat from Punjab District Chief Minister Bhagavant Man Sangroor.

The new Indian Express quoted the official data of the State Food and Supplies Department as the last day of May 15. To this day, a total of 130.5 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased across the state. Government companies have purchased 119.2 lakh tonnes and the remaining 10.79 lakh wheat by private merchants. 2.43 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased from Sangrur’s home district. This is followed by 1.32 lakh tonnes from Faridkot, 1.01 lakh tonnes from Ludhiana (East), 70,704 tonnes from Patiala and 68,020 tonnes from Bathinda.
Private procurement increase is seen as positive improvements. In some parts of Sangrur and Patiala, the MSP has risen from Rs 2,425 per Quee to a Queest to Rs 2,640 per Quee. In the unknown, private traders have purchased 7.5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat last year and it was 6.5 lakh MD in 2022-23.
How was the government purchase
According to the department’s data, a total of 119.2 lakh wheat government agencies have been purchased. From Mukhtzar to 8.77 lakh metric tonnes, 8.50 lakh metric tonnes from Patiala, 8.42 lakh metric tonnes from eighty, 8.38 lakh metric tonnes from FeroShepur district and 7.56 lakh matrices from Torn Taran. But interesting is that the state government is behind the goal of buying 124 lakh tonnes of the central government.
Government dependent ends!
According to a senior official of the State Food and Distribution Department, private companies buy wheat and pay more. This is a positive step, and it shows that farmers are no longer a government purchase. Naresh Kai, president of the Punjab’s wheat flour Millers Association, said the price of wheat was reached Rs 3,200 per Quantile last year. This was due to the announcement of the release of wheat under the Open Market Sales Program (OMSS) in July. But wheat was released in December, which affected the operation of the flour plants.
Traders do the share of wheat
He said it was very difficult to buy wheat from the open market for those months. This year, plant owners fear that the government may delay the supply of wheat under the OMSS. So, due to fear and fear, he bought wheat stocks directly from the farmers for six to nine months. Also, this season is more than last season and farmers have wheat to sell later.
How much did the farmers pay
Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Sandaruchak said that the state government has purchased 130.03 lakh metric tonnes of wheat in Mantis until the purchase session was closed on May 15. He said that Rs 28,571 crore has been paid to over seven lakh farmers. He said that 104.51 lakh metric tonnes had been removed regarding the lift. The rest will be raised in a few days.
