The public audience that should have been celebrating the Pope today, March 19, in the classroom Paul VI, because he was hospitalized at Gemili Hospital. In the text, Francisco stopped meeting Jesus with Nicodemus, “a man in the darkness of doubts, in the darkness that we test when we do not understand” what is happening “and we do not see the way to continue well.” Looking at the face of what frightens us, we can start freeing ourselves

The Apostolic Chair Press Office published the education of Pope Francis, which was prepared for the general session that must be held today, March 19, and was canceled due to the Pope’s residence at the Jimili Hospital. Today’s text follows the jubilee in Christian education on “Jesus Christ, our hope.” Christian education that talks about Jesus’ life. Today we are talking about the meeting he lived with Nicodemus (JN 3.1-3).
Jesus gives hope
With this Christian education, the Pope wanted to explain some of the meetings that were narrated in the Gospels, to understand how Jesus gives hope. In fact, there are meetings that illuminate life and give hope, read in the text.
Jesus meet Nikudmos
The first meeting in which Francisco stopped today is at that time in Jesus with Nicodemus, narrated in Chapter 3 of the Gospel of John. He wanted to mention the Pope because “Nicodemus is a man whose story shows that it is possible to get out of darkness and find courage to follow Christ.”
Nicodem goes to Jesus at night: an unusual hour of confrontation, reads in the text, and the Holy Father explains that in the language of the Apostle John, the temporary references often have a symbolic value: “Here is probably what is in the heart of Nikudmus. He is a man in the dark.”
Nicodemus feels the need for change
Nicodemus, according to humans, does not understand Jesus’ language, “Nicodemus does not understand what Jesus tells why he is still thinking about his region and his own categories. He is a man with a well -defined personality, and he has a general role, and he is one of the leaders of the Jews. But perhaps the accounts no longer fits Huh.”
Nicodeemus feels that something no longer works in his life, as he feels the need for change, but he does not know where to start. This, the Pope said, it happens to everyone at certain times of life.
It changes sometimes scares us
Francisco said he chose to start this new stage of the Christian education course with Jesus’ meeting with Nicodemus, because he is a man who explains, with his life, that this change is possible. The Pope said that Nicodemus will achieve this, “in the end it will be among those who go to Pilate to ask for Jesus’ body (see JN 19,39)!
He pointed out that the changes sometimes scare us, sometimes attract us, and sometimes we want changes, but sometimes we prefer to stay in our comfort areas. For this reason, the soul encourages us to face these concerns. Jesus Nicodemus – a teacher in Israel – remembers that the Israelis were also afraid when they walked across the desert.
Nicodemus, like all of us, can look at the crucified person, to the root of all our fears.
