On Tuesday (29), Cuba once again arrested the opponent and human rights activist Jose Daniel Ferrier because of the “violation of the conditions of conditional release” just three months after the prison left.
The work was part of a Wider agreement Boussa in January by the Vatican with the Biden government, which aims to release more than 500 prisoners in the country If the United States removes Cuba from the terrorist list.
Trump, upon assuming office, returned by agreement, Put a Cuba again on the listWhich prompted the government to suspend the release of the detainees.
Marisiela Sosa, Vice President of the Supreme Court in Cuba, said that Ferrier had not attended two mandatory sessions in the court, which is a violation of Cuban law and the conditions for his release.
Soussa told Reuters in a statement that was also issued on Tuesday (29): “Not only did he attend, as he also announced in his personal social file, in the act of contempt and violation of the law, which will not attend the judiciary.”
Joseph’s sister, Anna Belix Ferrier, said on social networks that her brother was detained by the police in the morning, as well as his wife, Nalva, his son and several other activists.
“We are calling for her immediate release and the release of all detainees and political prisoners,” said Anna Bilux.

It has just confirmed the news that on Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025, the repressive forces of the Communist dictatorship attacked Castro Canel Canel pic.twitter.com/5Yibybsfqly– Jose Daniel Ferrire (@jdanielferrer) April 29, 2025
Jose Daniel Ferrier, who lives in Santiago de Cuba, said that the Cuban authorities arrested him unfairly and that his presence in any judicial session was not necessary.
Marisila Sosa Reuters told the court that the court arrested Felix Navarro, another prominent opponent in Matanzas, the municipality of Cuba, who was sentenced to nine years in prison after old protests in July 2021.
Soussa stated that Navarro, which was released in January, violated his conditional freedom by leaving the municipality as he resides without seeking permission from the judge.
“Although they are not part of this process, in addition to breaking the conditions of conditional release, (Ferre and Navarro) are the people who publicly incite turmoil and lack of respect for the authorities in their social environments and the Internet, and maintain public relations with the head of the United States Embassy,” Soussa said.
The Vice President of the Supreme Court in Cuba also stated that the decision to arrest the two men “was not directly related to these behaviors,” but an investigation will be held soon.
Ferrer threats, according to Cuba
Jose Daniel Ferrier, 54, established an opposition group called the National Union of National, or “UNPACU” in 2011. He is among the last remaining and most obvious dissidents on the Communist Island.
Ferrer started operating a community cafeteria at his home in Santiago de Cuba after his release in January. He claimed that the government was annoying his family and team, which makes him impossible to provide food to the poor.
Cuba has long accused the United States of funding Ferrier’s opposition in an attempt to topple the island’s government.
The US mission president, Mike Hamer Ferrier, visited in February at his home in Santiago.
US State Department spokeswoman, Tami Bruce, called for the immediate release of Ferrier and Navarro on Tuesday.
“We strongly condemn the brutal treatment and the unjust arrest of the Cuban patriot, Jose Daniel Ferre, his wife and his young son, as well as Felix Navarro and other supporters of democracy,” Bruce told reporters at a regular press conference.
