The meeting between Russia and Ukraine ends without any possibility of a ceasefire

The first bilateral meeting between Russia and Ukraine since the first weeks of the war between the two countries was modest.

The conversation continued on Friday (16), just over two hours.

Both sides confirmed that they intend to clarify a new meeting to discuss the end of the conflict. Ukraine requested the next meeting between Volodimir Zellinski and Vladimir Putin.

Kermlin said he would analyze the request, but he did not abide by a business schedule between the heads of state.

Russia and Ukraine are still agreeing to exchange a thousand prisoners of war on each side.

A source who accompanied the meeting said that Russia has submitted demands that are considered “unacceptable” by Kiev, such as controlling areas currently not occupied by the Kremlin army.

The Ukrainian president was at a forum in Albania during the negotiations, along with the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Poland. At the end of the meeting, US President Donald Trump called Zelinski and asked the West to expand sanctions against Russia as a way to pressure Putin to negotiate the ceasefire.

Then Trump again adapted any agreement on a meeting between him and the Kremlin president.

“We need to meet. It is (Putin) and I will find ourselves. I think we will solve the problem. Or perhaps not, but at least we will know. If we do not solve, it will be interesting?” Donald Trump said.

The European Commission President, Ursula von der Lin, said on Friday that the bloc is a new round of restrictions on the Russian economy.

Among them, relations with the Russian financial sector and oil.

“We are ready to do more to bring Putin to the negotiating table. This war must end,” said the European director.
