On Tuesday (6), the House of Representatives approved 270 votes to 207, the draft law that could expand from 513 to 531 the number of deputies. Now, the proposal will be analyzed by the Federal Senate.

The text has to do with Damia-PB, which suggested 18 vacancies At home, a total of 531 deputies of the 2026 elections.

The decision states that, according to the House of Representatives Directorate, the establishment of the new vacancies “will generate an annual impact of about 64.6 million dollars.”

review

The topic has been under analysis at home since last year. A decision by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided that Congress should review, by June 30 this year, the number of parliamentarians for each state in the House of Representatives, based on the most population data.

According to the Supreme Court, the review must be made according to the 1922 demographic census, while maintaining the total number of 513 deputies. If the recommendation is followed, seven states have a reduction in the population will lose chairs at home, and seven other states have the elderly population that will gain vacancies.

The project was written under analysis by Danny’s deputy (UNIãO-RJ). The text prohibits that the countries are subject to a loss of representation obtained in the previous elections, but it determines that the distribution depends on the population count. The proposal also declares an increase of 513 deputies at home.

If the proposal is not approved by Congress until the deadline set by the Supreme Court, it will be left to the superior electoral court (TSE) to organize the case through a decision.

As for the introduction, the proposal “corrects the distortions that today punishes the sub -states that have achieved significant growth in recent decades, in a balanced way, without prejudice to the political balance and the link of regional powers.”

New composition

like CNN Mayor Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB) showed, participated in expressing the proposal. He said to increase at least 14 chairs, at least 14 chairs, and to expand the seats of units that were an increase in the population, but without reducing the seat of the countries that had the discounts of the population. Thus, the house will have at least 527 deputies, not 513.

According to Damião Feliciano, this excess of 14 chairs will continue to maintain the non -proportionality, as the largest population objects have less representation. For this reason, he suggested adding vacancies to Paraná and one to Mato Grosso, as well as two new chairs for Rio Grande Do Norte.

Thus, according to the report, the countries that will gain new vacancies are:

  • Para (4);
  • Santa Catarina (4);
  • Amazonas (2);
  • Matto Grosu (2);
  • Rio Grande de Norte (2);
  • Parana (1);
  • CEARK (1);
  • Goiás (1);
  • Minas Gerais (1).

Under the replacement of the course, the distribution of vacancies in the House of Representatives will be based on the official data of the IBGE, but data must be reviewed by the Federal Audit Court (TCU) and can be challenged by political parties or legal representation of the states.
