Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has recently made an important announcement, which will prove a great relief to farmers who produce onion. The Modi government has completely canceled the export duty on onion exports, which is expected to benefit farmers. Let us tell you that farmers are demanding that the export duty from onion be removed long ago. Due to high export duty, farmers said their products did not get the right price.
Even in the domestic market, the exact price of the yield is not available. Farmers around the Nashik also protested the export duty. Farmers demanded the removal of the duty from the Minister of Commerce Push Goyal.
Shipment obligatory nodes of onion
Shivraj Singh Chauhan said the previous onion would cost 40% of the export duty, so farmers could not afford the reasonable prices of their production. But the government felt that the onion prices were falling as farmers were suffering. To solve this problem, the government reduced the export duty from 40% to 20%.
Now, the government has completely canceled this 20% duty so that onions can now be exported at no cost. With this, Indian onions will reach the world market without extra cost, and farmers will get a fair price for their hard work.
Farmers will receive beneficial prices
Shivraj Singh said the main purpose of the Modi government was to provide the farmers the beneficial price. The dedication of the government is that farmers get the right and beneficial prices of their products so that they can maintain their families properly. This decision for onion manufacturers will be an important step of economic relief.
The Union Minister said that the focus of the government is always in the benefit of the peasantry and the priority of the government is to create better policies.
The farmers were warned
Farmers had warned that if the government did not remove the export duty soon, there would be a major movement against it. After this, the government decided to focus on farmers’ concern and eliminate the export duty. In fact, the government imposed the export duty to export onions to keep the onion prices in the domestic market. After this, prices in the domestic market fell, but the farmers were not benefited. Now, after the duty is over, there is joy among the farmers.
Last year, 40 percent of fees were used
In May last year, the federal government imposed a 40 copy of onion exports, but in September 2024, it was reduced to 20 per cent, and then exported to this fee, and the Indian onion could not compete due to the cheapest onions of other countries in the world market. It is believed that the government has reduced the export fee of 20 per cent from onion, considering Maharashtra elections.
11.65 LMD onion was exported by March 18
Despite the export ban, the government said in its statement that the total onion exports were 17.17 LMD and the financial year 2024-25 (from March 18). The monthly onion exports increased from 0.72 LMT to 1.85 LMT in January 2024 on January 2024.
