Abelina is a day worker in San Quentin, Baja California, and the leader of the Independent National Union for Day Democracy and Agricultural Days (Al -Sindhi). I wake up at 5 am to take a truck that drives it to strawberry, zarmazora or tomatoes. Also weeds and keeping agricultural fields. For at least 20 years, it works under the “departure and payment” method, as patterns do not offer any kind of benefits.
He says in an interview with Image News: “Many billions of workers are emptied on social security, and I: What is the sector that will be?
The face and neck are covered with five scarves to avoid the sun. It has five eggs and bean borrito to eat. It gives the back to reach every corner of the groove, it is imperative that their hands end with thorns. It works and sits squatting for 9 hours, and the payment is 460 peso.
Abelina also collects the fruit that is exported to the United States, but in her 57 -year -old life she never tried. It warns that eating it may cause your dismissal or get down in a full box of your salary.
Anna, originally from Ghairo, early at 3:30 am to prepare her official uniform, lunch and daughter Yuri, 9. She works in Berrymex, a company belonging to Riter companies with a presence in Portugal, Morocco, Mexico and the United States.
“Yesterday, it cost me 55 peso and because the Companions who are strawberry are paying 28 boxes that bring, if I am not wrong, four or five basketball,” Anna complains while taking strawberry taming from the refrigerator.
Esther started working in 9 years with strawberry sowing. He is used to living with an irreplaceable influenza that relates to its exposure to pesticides. They do not claim gloves because they can abuse fruit, which leads to their hands full of small scars. The same plastic that is used to create grooves is used as Cark.
Time passes … but the demands are similar
The demands were not the same 10 years ago, when the 50,000 -day workers hit San Quentin to demand better salaries, medical insurance, decent treatment, and stop the persecution of daytime workers. The salary increased, moved from 200 peso in 2015 to 420 in 2025, and sexual harassment is increasing, and day workers have now decreased on public offices and child labor.
However, the benefits are few or null and the harassment continues in the workplace. Organizations such as Sindja and “UNITED SAINT Quintín” continues to struggle for a salary and decent treatment, as well as respect for their work rights and are not abused by owners or farms servants.
Hope a better world
Every Sunday, Abelina, Anna and Esther gather with women’s day workers in the city’s residents. They usually eat a special meal breakfast that is only preparing for birthdays, wedding parties and special events: Sopes with beans, cream, cheese and rib.
In a room full of notebooks, games and landing, the three are protected from venting from work problems. There, Abelina says that although it cost a lot of work to fight for daytime workers’ rights, he was worth it.
