Isma has provided recent information on sugar production in the country. In the Chinese season 2024-25, Sugar Production has reached 257.44 lakh tonnes by May 15, 2025, Isma said. Also, two sugar mills are currently operating nationwide. The Indian Sugar and Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) has said that both current plants are located in Tamil Nadu, where the main crushing season is still ongoing.
Many factories in South Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are expected to re -operate during special crushing sessions, which are usually running in the country from June/July to 2025 in the country. In terms of production, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu contribute from about 4 to 5 lakh tonnes in the special season.
How much was produced in which state
In terms of production, Uttar Pradesh tops the list with about 93 lakh tonnes of sugar production and Maharashtra is second with 81 lakh tonnes. Special things about sugar production
At the end of the Chinese season 2024-25, Izma said about 261 to 262 lakh tonnes of pure sugar would be produced. From the special crushing season in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, it includes 4 to 5 lakh tonnes of sugar, and 257.44 lakh tonnes of sugar is produced.
The season started with an early share of 8 million tonnes. With 28 million tonnes of domestic consumption and export estimates up to 9 lakh tonnes, the final share is expected to be about 52-53 lakh tonnes. It says about a comfortable buffer, which shows that there is enough sugar role to meet the country’s domestic Chinese demand.
According to the distribution until April 30, 2025, about 27 lakhs of sugar has been shipped during the current season. The remaining season is expected to send 6 to 7 lakh tonnes of additional sugar.
2025-26 Season ratings
In the southern states, especially in Maharashtra and Karnataka, there has been a major improvement in the transfer of sugarcane for the favorable southwest monsoon in 2024. Since sugarcane is good, the crush season can start on October 2025. These efforts are expected to increase sugarcane yields and upgrade the sugar recovery rate.

India has predicted a good monsoon by the Meteorological Department (IMT) and Private Weather Agency Skymet this year, which is expected to produce bambar with a good sugarcane crop. This will also increase sugar production.
