Sugar production in Maharashtra this season has declined and a 26 per cent decline

Sugarcane crushing is in its last stage in many states of the country. At the same time, sugarcane yields in Maharashtra are over. Of the current 200 sugar mills in the state, 199 crushing has stopped, which produces only 807.61 lakh Quintol sugar, which is less than 1,100.93 lakh in 2023-24.

The decline of production is related to a decrease in the availability of sugarcane. The total crushing sugarcane level in this season is 852.34 lakh tonnes, which is 20.6 per cent lower than 1,073.9 lakh tonnes in the previous season.

These are the reasons for the decline of yield

The decline in the sugar recovery rate is still worrying, which has declined from 1.025 quintal to sugarcane in 2023-24 this season. Sugar prices may increase
