According to experts, the status of the shrimp market has not been going well for about four years. The shrimp domestic market is very low, but the export market is broken behind. Both the demand and rate of Indian shrimp are weakening overseas. The condition of the shrimp market has worsened for the past three years.
According to the shrimp expert, the market has so far dropped from 20 to 22 percent of shrimp exports. As the demand and rate of prawns are declining, the question of life has arisen in front of millions of families. Shrimp exports are declining in particular. Farmers are forced to feed their family by selling shrimp ponds in Andhra Pradesh.
The US buys 60 percent of India’s shrimp
Shrimp manufacturer and expert Dr. Manoj Sharma says 60 lakh tonnes of shrimp is produced worldwide. Of these, 3 million tonnes of shrimp falls into the market. Ecuador is 1.5 million tonnes and India is 1 million tonnes in the largest nations in the world. Now, talking about shrimp buyers, the US is buying 60 percent and China 30 percent of the shrimp market. According to a media report, the US exported $ 257 million from India in 2021-22. But after this, the amount of shrimp exports continues to decline. If it is now on November 2024-25, only $ 131 million is exported.
Exports are reduced due to US duty
The US Trade Department (DOC) must export the highest duty on frozen shrimp from India from India to other countries. Although other countries have imposed an anti -dumping duty, CVT has been imposed on India. According to the report, the US has imposed a 3.75 per cent garbage barrier on Ecuador and 2.84 per cent in Indonesia and 1.3 per cent in Vietnam. At the same time, India has 5.75 per cent CVT imposed on India. There are also fears that the US can perform this duty by up to 30 percent of the Indian prawns by 2025. The US Senator accuses India of collecting a 30 per cent huge duty on food items to be imported here.
