The new body cameras used by the Sao Paulo military police are presented in a kiosk in Laad Defeense & Security 2025, a security exhibition held in Rio de Janeiro until Friday (4). With an automatic drive, complementary 190 system and encrypted storage, devices are more efficient and transparent in operations.
The government of Sao Paulo signed the new technology contract in September 2024, at a monthly cost of $ 4.3 million. The project provides delivery of 12,000 cameras. Before the final implementation, 120 devices were tested in Sao Jose Doss Campus in the stage called the process, which started in January this year. The goal was to verify the effectiveness of devices, test the durability of the evidence management system and the police training in the use of equipment.
How new cameras work
Unlike the previous models, which require manual activation, new body groups are combined into the 190 emergency system. Therefore, when a call and the car that is sent are registered, the relevant police cameras are automatically.
According to Rodolfo Gomees, Director of Video Solutions at Motorola Solutions, this system prevents the police from having to stimulate equipment at the heat of occurrence.
“If a policeman is run for it, his camera is involved in automatic registration. In addition, if another agent reaches the scene, his equipment is also activated by proximity, via Bluetooth,” explains Gomez.
Another important change is that the device cannot be manually separated and continues to register until the occurrence of the occurrence in the command center. This prevents the accidental or deliberate separation during the police.
Each camera has independence to view 12 hours of operation, and covers a full turn of work. In addition, the device is constantly registered and automatically kept 90 seconds before the official activation, ensuring a broader record of the procedure.
Covering images are stored and transferred to a safe servant at the end of the work. The time for retaining is different according to the government’s policy, and it may be 30 days to one year.
Identity and safety determination against fraud operations
To ensure that each registration is linked to the correct police officer, the system has an individual identification by RFID (radio frequency, translation). At the beginning of the transformation, the worker passes his identification card to a reader, and the system randomly appoints a camera available for him.
“The policeman cannot choose the camera that must be used, which guarantees more transparency in this process,” says Gomez.
In addition, at the end of the occurrence, videos are automatically linked to the call number in 190, which facilitates access to investigations and lawsuits.
For Gustavo Ancheschi, President Motorola Solutions Do Brasil, the new Bodycams goes beyond taking pictures.
“Now brings management, efficiency and intelligence to operations, which helps to make the approach more fake and safe,” says Achechi.
The Executive Authority indicates that more than $ 80 billion has been invested in the past eight years in developing an ecosystem for public safety, which includes communications radio devices, driving, monitoring and video programs.
“Sao Paulo is a reference case in technology. This project requires a series of innovations and can be a model for other police in Brazil,” he concludes.
