Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said it is not easy to reach an agreement with the United States on the main points of a possible peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine and that Russia will not allow itself to be economically dependent on the West.

The minister’s speech came during an interview with the Kommersant newspaper, when he was asked whether Moscow and Washington had reached an agreement on some aspects of a possible peace agreement.
“We are fully aware of what it seems to be a useful agreement for both parties that we have never rejected, and what appears to be an agreement that can lead us to another trap,” Lavrov said in the interview published on Tuesday (15).
The Kremlin said on Sunday that it is very early to expect results from the restoration of natural relations with Washington.
Lavrov stated that Russia’s position was clearly defined by President Vladimir Putin in June 2024, when he demanded that Ukraine officially give up his aspirations in NATO and remove his forces from the lands of four Ukrainian regions demanded by Russia.
“We are talking about the rights of people who live in these lands. For this reason, these lands are valuable to us. We cannot abandon them, allowing people to be expelled from there,” Lavrov said.
Russia is currently controlling less than five Ukraine, including the Crimea Peninsula, which Russia attached in 2014, and parts of four other regions now claims Moscow as part of Russia, a claim that most countries have not recognized.
Lavrov praised Trump’s “sound sense” Because he claims that the former American support for Ukraine’s attempt to join the NATO military alliance was one of the main causes of the war in Ukraine.
But the Russian political elite, he said, will not tolerate any movements that would lead Russia to economic, technological or agricultural dependence of the West.
Lavrov said that the globalization of the global economy was destroyed by the sanctions imposed by Russia, China and Iran by the government of former US President Joe Biden.
Biden, the leaders of Western Europe and Ukraine, describe the Russian invasion of 2022 as an imperial land allocating, and immediately promised to defeat the Russian forces.
