Rome: A report that seeks to give a voice was submitted to the weakest

The idea – emerging on the cooperation of academics, religious and secular entities and diaspora societies in the poorest countries on this planet – was born to make the requirements and stories of fragile countries. This year’s report, which was presented this week in Rome, analyzes the problems that include twenty common countries – from Afghanistan and Burkina Faso, to Haiti and Yemen – in order to restore global attention to forgotten crises

Intuition appeared in 2021, the year of the Italian presidency of the Group of Twenty. The project was aimed at working as a parallel costume for the summit of the most powerful countries, which makes the demands, requests and weakest stories, as well as the reasons for its fragility.

For this reason he was born Latter 20 (L20), which was presented this year this week in Rome.

It is an observatory consisting of researchers, diaspora societies and associations, which write a report after studying the last twenty countries of the land in accordance with international statistics of the main social and economic indicators. And make a civil battle to place them in the International Agenda Center.

This, in alphabetical order, L20 menu according to the recently published report: Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Chad, Eritrea, Gambia, Haiti, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Malawi, South, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Sudan, Yemen.

This study is not limited to complaint, but it provides a very detailed social, economic, economic and geopolitical analysis, and it is proposed as a valuable tool to understand the most forgotten health condition, but also to suggest solutions.

Debt

The problems that make these countries at the end of the planet are many: a secular history, not everyone, from slavery, colonialism, opening and continuing in Europe (which the old continent has not yet paid); Conflicts of unbridled exploitation of endless resources; Very serious environmental problems caused by the West to a large extent, and many others.

In addition, there are two factors that are very crowded around L20 economies as a slab. The first is the debt.

“At the economic level – UGO Melchionnda, one of the report editors – the L20 countries are very weak due to the strong dependence on external aid, and the high rates of external debt that often forces governments to waive large parts of the budget rather than investing in public services, which maintain the situation in the case of motivation.”

Military expenditures

The second factor is military expenditures: There is an important part of the general spending for almost all of these countries for weapons, which greatly reduces the resources available for social services such as health and education.

Equal growth growth

Economic growth, even between L20 countries, was unequal: Niger and the Democratic Republic of the Congo recorded large accumulated growth rates (for Niger, more than 35 % between 2019 and 2024), also thanks to the extraction of natural resources.

On the contrary, other countries such as Haiti and South Sudan have suffered from a significant contraction in GDP due to the ongoing conflicts or structural crisis of state institutions.

According to him Global Hunger IndexIn some countries such as Gambia and Burkina Faso, the percentage of children with malnutrition (acute malnutrition) decreased, but in others such as Niger and Yemen, they are still dangerous. RECKETS affects more than 40 % of children in Afghanistan, Burundi and Niger.

Female reading and writing rates have improved in some countries, such as Mozambique and Togo, thanks to the increase in efforts in education.

However, quality problems continue due to insufficient infrastructure and lack of educational resources. Health improvements are evident in reducing infant mortality rates (which represent children under the age of five) in countries such as the Central African Republic and Somalia, although these rates are still higher than the global average.

The challenges of the global south

The question posed by the creators in the report was: What should strike conferences, conclude agreements, and search for solutions to the drama of our time, without hearing the voice of those who live this drama in their body? Will it not be more convenient, in addition to more just, listen to the view of those who face tremendous challenges and understand, it is clear that it is much more than those who notice from afar?

The global south is also because the land of conquest and exploitation is still in favor of others. EULALIA Guiliche, a representative of the Mozambique community in Italy, says, says Eulalia Guiliche, a representative of the Mozambique community in Italy, says,

“Africa is still a land that has been sacrificed for European interests. The symbolic issue is my country, where there are large deposits of natural gas, since its discovery, only problems have brought us problems.”

“In addition to the war (in the Cabo Delgado region, NDR), we are now living in dangerous political instability after the 2024 elections.”

“Everyone saw what was happening in Mozambique, but no one, starting with Europe, which has many extractive companies there, is to move a finger. External interests are always first of the population.”

“Last20 – Melchionnda – wants to illuminate the problematic aspects of the poorest countries in the world, but also remember the human and cultural wealth of their people.”

“Our observatory will be the protagonist at the end of October from an international conference organized in Asizi, in cooperation with the association Laudato yes. This occasion will be, in the year of Jubilee, to re -launch the issue of the debts of these countries and think about viable solutions. And an opportunity to give a voice to this “latter” to be Last 20 and not least(Last 20, but not less important).
