Eternal life is a gift that is already existing, but often it is difficult to understand a basic aspect: rest. From childhood, we used to listen to prayer: «give them, Lord, eternal rest and shine them to permanent light. Relax in peace. Amen “. The idea of an eternity based on eternity may be disappointing, as life ended with an endless dream. But this concept comes from a deep misunderstanding: we only see the passiveness of the Owa, while the state of fullness and perception in the biblical view.

When Jesus was deposited in the grave after the cross, God enjoyed others. This moment is not a sterile recession, but on the holy Saturday, it describes the fulfillment of a job as an ancient respect: “God died in the flesh and went down to move the kingdom of hell.” Christ is resting, but he acts mysterious and frees the prisoners of hell. It teaches us that rest is not useless, but can hug the time with confidence without continuing a fanatic and sterile operation.

Today, rest is a careless luxury. We live in a community that we should always be active, always connected, and always produce. However, we have more opportunities and we can really relax. The parable of the servant does not expect a reward after working, but he accepts what he has called, teaches us an important secret. When we live with the excitement of achievement, we will never rest. Only those who quietly accept their limit can finally be relieved.

Real rest is not inactive, but freedom. We do not have to prove anything anymore because we allow us to hug for the love of God. Indoor peace allows us to tell us: “The one who entered the rest of God is his God from his works” (HB 4,10). Living well in rest is to teach us for eternal life, learn to live without fear, to separate us from superfluous, and believe that God is already acting in us.

The real rest is inner peace, which is not measured in achievements, but in the ability to welcome what life gives us. This is not a way of learning to live more seriously, without worry. This is not inactive, but the hope of an action frees us to love. «There is no fear in love. The perfect love blows fear »(1 Jn 4.18). In short, eternal life is not a distant goal, but a fact that already grows in us. Now, we are invited to live it.
