While members of the Cardenalicio College meet in Rome to prepare the next flavor, which will start on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the papal committee to protect minors expressed its spiritual proximity and support for Cardinal voters through a public statement and special prayer.
The committee, whose mission is to enhance the culture of protection throughout the Church, stressed the importance of the moment and expressed its union with the World Church in a prayer in order to distinguish the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The statement says: “We join our voices to God’s people in a call for discrimination that is guided by the Holy Spirit, and the mixture of the hustle and bustle of those who have suffered violations within the church.”
Courage, humility and commitment to protection
In order to realize the great responsibility that is located at the College of Cardinals, the committee has highlighted the need to protect the most vulnerable to be a priority in the life of the church.
“We are praying for the Cardinals who bear a serious responsibility in choosing the next successor to Peter, to act with courage, humility and firm commitment to protect the believers.”
The committee celebrated that the protection and weakest shelter was one of the issues that were dealt with during the meetings before Conclave. He also mentioned that the credibility and moral authority of the church depends on real accountability, transparency and concrete measures on the basis of justice.
Capricorn prayer is the tongue of Jose
In a gesture of confidence and intercession, the committee offered a special prayer for the tongue of Jose, the protector of the child Jesus, which calls for his guidance to the voters:
“Make your Holy Spirit descend on the Cardinals that gather in your name. This, through discrimination in prayer, behind St. Peter, gives priority to the protection of God’s people.”
Prayer also shouted for a deep awareness of the church’s responsibility towards those who were victims of abuse, and they warn of the danger of covering up the truth for fear of a scandal or care of the institutional reputation.
Leadership in the service of justice and truth
The committee expressed its hope that the next Pope will be a shepherd committed to transparency, accountability and the most vulnerable to protect. He also called the Cardinals to be loyal to the committee they received:
“It inspires the Cardinals to be leaders in protecting and defending innocent people, and defenders of people who are hurt. Those who assume as a priority responsible for implementing strict disciplinary policies and measures.”
