Paddy sowing: Punjab farmers have no problems with sowing paddy, get electricity for several hours daily

Punjab Paddy Agriculture: Now the sowing of Careb paddy has begun in Punjab, as the state government and power departments have been warned, so farmers do not have to face electricity problems for irrigation. State Electricity Minister Harbhajan Singh on Monday, during the paddy season, the supply of electricity to the farmers was constantly uninterrupted. During the paddy season, the minister said that farmers will be provided with uninterrupted power every day and if necessary, this period can be extended.

17 thousand MW power system

The Minister said that 14 of the current 15 power sections of the state are currently working with full potential and the remaining division will operate in the next three days. Last year, the maximum demand for electricity in the state was 16,058 MW and 17,000 MW this year. In addition, power plants have been upgraded for 30 days of coal reserves and transmission infrastructure in the state.

Appeal to farmers to accept direct sowing

The Minister of Electricity has issued instructions to promote direct sowing (DSR) rice system in the state. This method was previously published by the DSR’s schedule compared to the previous years. Traditional methods take about 3,800 liters of water to grow one kilogram of paddy (rice), while the DSR method saves 400-500 liters of water per kg of rice. In addition, the state government provides a subsidy of Rs 1,500 per acre for farmers who accept the DSR system.

Sowing will be done near the international border from June 1

He said direct sowing was allowed from May 15 to May 31. Since June 1, sowing will be allowed in areas with the international border and areas of canal irrigation facilities, including Faridcot, Halfeda, Ferosepur, Sri Mukhtzar Sahib and Basilka. At the same time, sowing can be launched in Kurdaspur, Pathankot, Torn Taran, Amritsar, Rupnagar, Sass Nagar (Mohali), Fadehkar Sahib and Hoshiyarpur from June 5.

He provided information on the paddy seed project, and Ludhiana, Malarkotla, Mansa, Moha, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Kapurtala, Jalandhar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar will start from June 9. For the seeding program provided by the State Government.

‘Domestic consumers and businesses are available free of power’

Singh assured that the government was fully committed to supporting the farmers during the sowing season and that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure that there is sufficient electricity available. He said that the paddy season would ensure uninterrupted electricity for domestic consumers and businesses. (PTI)
