One Rupee Crop Insurance Scheme ended in Maharashtra, the old system was re -executed

After the Latki Bahin Yoja, the Maharashtra Fatnavis government has now promised farmers. The state government has stopped a one -rupee crop insurance scheme even after giving confidence to the farmers. The old system of crop insurance has now been implemented in the state. The government says it is shut down due to irregularities and fake claims. At the same time, if the evidence is to be believed, the project has been halted due to financial burden. The crop insurance scheme was launched two years ago for one rupee. Instead of this project, the old Prime Minister crop insurance scheme now applies to the state.

What turned out under the new decision

According to the government’s new decision, farmers will now pay 2 per cent for Carib, 1.5 per cent for Rabi and 5 per cent of the insurance amount. In 2023, the Mahayudi government started the crop insurance scheme for Rs. Previously, under this scheme, farmers had to pay only 1 rupee from their pockets. The remaining amount was paid by the government. There was a huge increase in the number of applicants compared to previous years. In 2024-25, more than 5.82 lakh fake claims were revealed.

The center and the state of the state

According to a report, last year, the government (part of the state and the center) paid a premium of Rs 7,539 crore for the Carib season. Of this, Rs 3,060 crore was paid by the center, while Rs 479 crore from the state. Rs 1,684 crore was paid for the Ruby season. Of this, the center’s share is Rs 643 crore and the state is Rs 1,040 crore.

Rapid increase in fake claims

According to the data, about 96 lakh applications were received for crop insurance by 2021-22. At the same time 2022-23, the figure reached 1.04 crore. After the launch of the One Rupee Crop Insurance Scheme, the number of applicants increased to 2.42 crore in 2023-24 and 2.11 crore in 2024-25.

How many rupees will be saved each year

An official of the Department of Agriculture said, ‘The double increase in the number of applicants pointed out that something is wrong. At the hearing, 2023-24 and 5.82 lakh fake claims were found at 3.80 lakh 2024-25. This number may increase because many such lands were registered for crop insurance, which were completely empty. Therefore, it was decided to cancel the 1 rupee plan. According to an estimate, the government can save Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 crore annually after cancellation of the current plan.

When the Minister of Agriculture has issued controversial reports

There was a rapid debate on the project in Maharashtra, and Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokat made a controversial statement at a press conference during a project. When Kokat was asked about the project, his response was a little surprised. Kogate said, ‘Begging for a rupee does not even take the beggar. We are here to offer crop insurance here.’ Cocaate had said that some people misuse this amount. However, at the conference, he was asked if the government was thinking about launching the project and launching a 100 rupee crop insurance scheme. For this, he replied, ‘There is no plan to close it. But some decisions will be made to prevent misuse.
