When it seemed that the world was breathing recently – although it was with hooks hanging around the neck and bone insanity in the medium gas – a new microscopic visitor appears on the radar: H5N1 bird flu. Nor, it is not a bad repetition of the previous epidemics, but it is an uncomfortable reminder that viruses, such as political crises, are never comfortable.

The first humanitarian case was discovered in Mexico in Durango: a three -year -old girl, who, according to official reports, is dangerous and hospital in Torion. The virus, known as the rotation between birds and exit on farms, has a leap for humans. Although inflammation from person to person has not been confirmed, the simple fact that has already reached our country puts hair.

In the United States, the new minister of health and under the inverter after the collective discounts of employees in public health agencies somewhat that “there is no cause for concern”, although, of course, said some before the attached Covid-19 and redefine our existence. But this time there is a major difference: we know what can happen if the risks are reduced from the beginning.

The first thing to be requested in Mexico and the United States is clarity, not forced calm. Transparent general information, without “everything under control”, does not reassure anyone. After that, promoting epidemiological monitoring mechanisms: farm monitoring, huge tests in risk areas and clinical protocols that were updated in hospitals. Aviar Flu is not new, but this strain, with its own mutations, can represent unpublished challenges.

In Mexico, the effective communication policy is urgent that does not make the audience or hides the reality “not frightening”. In the United States, the new Minister of Health must prove that it is not only to stop political fires, but health alerts can light with scientific standards, even if that disturbs them above.

Above all, both countries must coordinate. Not with data in press conferences, but with facts: border protocols, exchange of data, joint veterinary control and bilateral exercises. Because if we learn something – strikes – is that viruses do not know the borders or respect the electoral calendars.

The good news is that we are still in time. The bad is that, as always, the watch advances faster than political will. We hope that science, cooperation and prevention will come this time. Because after experimenting with Covid there is no possible excuse: there is another mistake that will not be forgiven.
