London- through a joint global agenda

Port Susanna Goshko*

Since my arrival to Mexico, I have seen deep understanding and cooperation between our countries, at the bilateral level and in the multilateral scenario.

At every meeting and conversation, it was clear that the United Kingdom and Mexico are involved in basic values and priorities, from climate work and impulsion to economic development to international security with a fixed commitment to multiple parties.

These principles were the basis for fruitful cooperation over decades in which both countries worked together to reach global transgression agreements. Let me tell you that Mexico has the best multilateral diplomats in the world.

A clear example of this synergy was shown last February at the United Nations General Assembly (UN), where our country joined 91 other states in favor of the decision to “strengthen an integral, fair and lasting peace in Ukraine.” This text represents an invitation to De -Hegalated, to immediately stop the hostilities and the peaceful decision of the conflict.

Likewise, during the joint period of the United Nations Human Rights Council, between 2021 and 2023, we are actively cooperating in the search for solutions to regional challenges and in defending the basic principles of the international community. If the UK is elected a member of the Council for a period of 2026-2028, we will be excited to continue cooperation with Mexico in this forum.

Our cooperation also extends to strengthening reforms within multilateral institutions to enhance their ability and ensure that international cooperation occupies a central place.

As a reflection of this joint priority, at the beginning of 2024, we celebrated the multilateral and human rights dialogue, an event that represents the beginning of the narrowest cooperation in these decisive areas.

During this dialogue, we explore issues of mutual interest such as gender equality, ligbtQ+, to protect journalists and defenders, and human movement management, and understand that these challenges that require international coordinated solutions.

To continue this joint work, the second edition of the multilateral and human rights dialogue was conducted between representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SR).

The British delegation, headed Frea JacksonFCDO, director of multilateral and human rights affairs at FCDO, attended experts from London and his colleagues from the British embassy, who participated in the UK perspective in these issues.

I will never stop admiration for the impressive technical quality and the tremendous diplomatic experience of Mexican colleagues, who define rapprochement points in order to enhance multilateral cooperation in strengthening a comprehensive global agenda.

In these talks, we have had the opportunity to exchange views on regional challenges and specific areas of joint action. We also address decisive issues in the Sustainable Development Agenda, with a specific approach to climate change and emerging technologies.

There is no doubt that this second edition of the dialogue confirms the company’s will for both countries to build common solutions to the main challenges we face as an international community.

For the United Kingdom, Mexico is a key partner, because we are participating in condemning the importance of cooperation in multilateral forums to effectively meet global challenges.

Therefore, we are excited to continue to deepen our cooperation, in the international and national stage, especially within the framework of the eighties of the United Nations’ creation.

I invite you to continue talking about the various areas of cooperation between our countries in social networks, at X and Instagram, in Sannahgoshko and @ukinmexico.
