The Mass wanted to celebrate Christ’s passion, death and resurrection, but he also wanted to be, for the jubilee of workers and businessmen, a celebration of thanks. Some basic aspects of the employer and worker confirmed today. I allowed myself to say that being a pioneer is a profession. I wanted to emphasize the Paris that we have always mentioned the late Pope Francis, and the importance of working as a creative participation in the project of God. Job, yes, it should be clean, beautiful, supportive, only. I wanted to emphasize the principle of legitimacy at work as a tool to achieve justice. Then, according to the great president of the republic that we have, which I personally owe to gratitude, wages are low compared to the cost of life, so it is useful to rethink and adapt today to everything that is inflation and public spending.

What does entrepreneurs who follow the social doctrine of the Church mean today?

To the pioneers of Catholic business, to hear, to speak in front of him and sincerely with politics and institutions. Try not to fall into this temptation that you are a businessman only when there is a logic of the benefit. The benefit is important, but we should not sacrifice the values ​​of great justice and distribution of salaries. It is possible to combine the company, with all its expressions and statements, with the great values ​​of Jesus and the Church. Life is made of options. To use a very dear expression by Pope Francis, at this time, we must organize a company that cannot surrender to the cup and any form of slavery. Above all, you should try to combine rights and duties, by workers and businessmen. I would like to remember what Pope Francis always said, that there is an economy that kills, generates waste, destroys a person’s dignity. Work also gives dignity to a person.

The work gives dignity, but today the issue of bad work is increasingly highlighting, that is, even workers do not cross the threshold of poverty. What do you think of this reality?

It is a paradox, contradiction. People work but do not arrive at the end of the month. The function is bad because, it is clear that wages are not commensurate with the cost of life. Therefore, the beloved President of the Republic once again said that you must rethink and reorganize wages, which must be adapted to the expense of life. Otherwise, a big question is opened, democracies will be increasingly fragile and will face even the danger of tyranny, where, in the great vision of Orwell, there is always a more equal or unequal person than others.

Pope Francis called them in many speeches that were directed to the world of entrepreneurs specifically to see hope, and to build new relationships specifically in the workplace …

I am the son of a testimony for many years of the esteemed without Tonino Billo, who said that if we do not want to hope to be a drug of consciousness, we must organize it. First, we must consider workers the true resource of the company, not only the economy or financing. Then, hope is organized through legitimacy, which is a tool for justice. It is also achieved when workers’ rights are respected, which reach their duties. The Great Aldo Moro said that democracy is always based on this balance between rights and duties. I see that there are many great entrepreneurs who never give up the temptation to glorify the benefit, but they respect workers until they start more fair wages. It is clear that there are other entrepreneurs who still have to cut a road in this direction. That is why it is also important that there are laws that guarantee everything and all workers and businessmen. Cicero said at “Legibus” that the law gives it our weakness. Laws must always be activated, they are clearly correct, real, to develop the company. If the company grows, wealth grows for everyone, because it is not fair for wealth to be concentrated in a few hands.
