In Maharashtra, big troubles in front of onion farmers, workers did not come to harvest

Last year, farmers planted more crops this year due to satisfactory rainfall and onion crop good prices during the rabbi season. At the same time, onion sowing was affected due to the pre -Mayonan. Since the farmers sowed the dual nursery, the registration was cropped this year and onion crops increased. The lack of workers now and because of this, they have a lot of problems with harvesting the crop. In Nashik, Maharashtra, onion farmers are struggling with the lack of workers, and they do not know how the crop will be reduced under these conditions.

Agriculture depends on the migrant workers

The onion cutting period has begun and the lack of workers affects it. Due to this defect, the cost of harvesting has increased by 30 to 40 percent. At the same time, local workers do not receive this time, and this time the harvest depends on the diaspora workers. The shortage of workers working at the local level has been a major challenge for some time. The wages were also increased and the work was not worked even after paying a higher wage. Onion harvesting in Nashik this time depends on workers from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Workers in the district have reached their families from these two states.

Wages are expensive and farmers are upset

These workers are looking for more wages than local workers. Farmers have to pay 12 thousand to 16 thousand per acre. In such a situation, they have a double success because of the lack of prices of onions in the market. Pravasi mosques can work for 8 to 10 hours. Farmers should provide these workers from shade, water to sometimes food. Farmers are very upset over this problem at this time.

Steak revenge for local projects

Some farmers blame the ongoing plans for workers’ crisis. He says that free food grains, Anganwadi food and female sister -like programs for poor families have increased the wage crisis in agriculture. Since these families receive food and financial assistance, local workers are not ready to work in the fields now. Farmers say previous workers work for about a month. But now they are only seen once a week.

Workers are addicted to alcohol

Due to these projects, farmers say alcohol consumption has increased among male workers. Due to low financial pressure, many people prefer to drink alcohol instead of watching or working at home. Another farmer has also expressed a similar concern. He said the cost of agriculture has increased almost double. Farmers are struggling as male workers refuse to work. With this, we need to hire women or bring workers from distant areas.

Wants to stay at home, don’t work

It is difficult to maintain the production of farmers, especially where the major agricultural sectors, especially the Nasik and onion are the main crop. Farmers say the cost of pay has increased due to shortage. Tractor or vehicles must be sent to bring workers, and yet, there is no guarantee that they will come. According to farmers, earlier, both farmers and workers worked hard in the fields. Now, the owners of the land are working hard, and many workers want to stay at home.
