The suicide of farmers across the country remains intact. Maharashtra is one of the best states for farmers’ self -sufficiency. This is because a large area here is in the grip of drought. At the same time, weather conditions such as heavy rains, hailmates, and pamus rains in many areas are damaging crops many times, causing farmers to heal and are not mixed with debt and take action. According to a recent report, 21,219 farmers have committed suicide in the five districts of the Amravati Revenue Division of Maharashtra. This information is given in the official report.
There are suicide cases in these districts
Between January 2001 and January 2025, the number will die in Amravati, Akola, Pultana, Washim and Yavatmal districts. This includes 80 farmers’ suicides in January this year. In the last 24 years, 5,395 farmers have committed suicide in Amravati district, 3,123 in Akola district, 6,211 in Yavatmal district, 4,442 farmers and 2,048 people in Buldana district and 2,048 in Washim district. In January 2025, 10 farmers committed suicide in Amravati district, 34 in Akola, 34 in Yavatmal, 10 in Buldana and seven in Washim district.
Causes of Suicide- Loss of Credit and Crop
Of the 24 years of total suicide, 9,970 cases (for government compensation) are not eligible, 10,963 incompetent, while 319 cases are pending, according to the report. The report states that assistance has been provided in 9,740 cases. According to existing criteria, only a few suicides are qualified for compensation – some of them prove that the law is the result of the lack of reconstruction, not due to crop loss and personal reasons.
