Hundreds of people have passed through the grave of Pope Francis from the early morning of Sunday morning (27), in the Roman Church of Santa Maria Maglor, where he chose to be buried.
No door was buried outside the Vatican more than a century ago, but Francisco chose to burial in Santa Maria Mayor, located in the Italian multi -cultural capital.
His coffin was moved there on Saturday, after the mass of the corpse in St. Peter’s Square, where thousands of people travel in the heart of the city to say goodbye.
The sarcophagus was placed in a simple marble grave in a side corridor of the Estilica.
Only his name is in Latin, “Francis”, listed on top, while reproduction is the simple cross he was wearing on his neck hanging over a position.
“I feel exactly that this is the Pope’s style. It was simple, and his place now,” said Polish Hajj Maria Berzerska after I paid honors.
Visitors started waiting before the opening of Bazilica at 7 am (05h GMT).
After passing through the mineral detection devices, they entered the church through the sacred door that was called, and it was opened only during the special saints who are celebrated every 25 years.
Saint Maria Maglor is one of the four Bascas in Rome, which has these sacred doors. Founded in 432 and is the only basilica in the city to maintain the early Christian structure, although there are many subsequent additions.
Francis was especially linked to her dedication to Mary, the mother of God. He prayed there before and after each trip abroad.
The Byzantine icon is stored in Paulin’s chapel, near the grave. The vase of golden roses, which Francis donated in 2023, is located between the candles under the icon. His last visit to the church bearing a bouquet of white roses was on April 12.

“He was a lot of intensity. He was a person close to everyone, so we respect him for what he did, all in his own way. Thank you,” said Carmelo Lamora, a Rome resident.
