During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance era, the strange habit became common among women: shaved part of the hair for a longer forehead.
This feature was considered a sign of the various intelligence and paintings at that time to treat women in this way. Moreover, females were dirty and even dangerous for men, which contributed to getting rid of women from their hair and even shaving their eyebrows.
Proxy, Hiterriral and Art, Laura Ferrazza, radiation to CNN The period between the late Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance, between 1401 EE 1600, was decisive to the appearance of fashion as we know today.
“There is growth in cities, and the growth of the bourgeoisie. We have the idea that in cities, people revolve and see each other, are no longer isolated in the castle. Therefore, there are more public places, and more clarity. Other than the way people look at the way of wearing,” explains Ferrazza.
The teacher also states that at the beginning of the Renaissance there was a change in the situation of women. She explains that during the greatest field of the Catholic Church, women often looked at women in a negative way, linked to sin.
This has changed with the emergence of universities in the Renaissance, where some women as scholars, composers and philosophers have emerged. “The broad forehead gives the idea that a woman has a mind mind,” says Ferza.
High forehead in British property
One of the women photographed with the high front is Queen Elizabeth I of the Tudor family in the United Kingdom.
During the era, between 1558 and 1603, the monarch identified the fashion in the country. Many women and even the courts of the court seek to imitate her style that wears clothes with an exaggerated silhouette, pale skin and red hair.
The historian says: “In the case of Elizabeth I, in the sixteenth century, the high front gave a feeling of greatness and was considered a sign of intelligence, and it is a task of a woman in a usually male power.”
The most famous paintings in Elizabeth show the queen with a light leather and a long front. When he was 29 years old, he contracted with smallpox and died almost. Because of the disease, the queen lost all her hair and was forced to wear a wig for the rest of her life, which contributed to the appearance with the most prominent forehead.
Wearing the wigs was also common, as hair loss at that time was common through diseases such as smallpox and pink. When choosing a color, many red -haired people adopt for the monarch’s hair tone.
Thinking about time images, the high front was accompanied by a distinctive womb, to remember that the role of women is to generate children. Laura Ferza says the idea is to show that “even if you think, the role is the generation.”
Note that, despite the social changes that allowed some women to operate a larger intellectual space (symbolizing the wide front), society continues to enhance its primitive role in childbearing.
As with all directions, the high front finally fell into neglect. By the end of the sixteenth century, at the end of Elizabeth I era, it was already possible to see a change in artistic representation and ideal beauty.
The long front of the Renaissance gave the way to return the most natural hair lines during the Baroque period.
