In the last four days, 668 burning cases have been registered in the district, the official said. However, farmers’ organizations have objected to the move and demand any other organization.

Farmers’ organizations have objected to the heavy fines imposed on farmers. In the Malwa-Nimmer region of West Madhya Pradesh, United Kisan Morcha’s convener Ram Swarup said, “We believe it is wrong to burn straw in the fields, but in such cases it is unreasonable for farmers to suddenly pay more fines.” He demanded that the officials of the Agriculture Department go to the villages and make alternative arrangements to destroy the stems of the remaining plants in the field.
