The Mexico government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Security and Protection, signed for citizens (SSPC), among other cases, the work agreement between SSPC and the European Police Cooperation Agency (Europol) to establish cooperation relations between the police authorities in Mexico and the European Union. The work agreement is valid as of July 2020. The official nature of this cooperation was added in response to the urgent problems derived from the international organized crime, especially through the exchange of information between Europol and Mexico.

EUROPOL, the European Union Agency for Cooperation within the scope of law, plays a key role in enhancing security in Europe and abroad. Its main mission is to support the European Union member states in combating organized crime and other severe forms of crime. It facilitates the exchange of information between the security forces in various European countries, and providing advanced analysis and technical support in research crossing the borders.

Its approach is not limited to traditional crimes, but also covers emerging phenomena such as Internet crimes, terrorism and extremism.
