The Public Prosecution Service (MPPA) has opened an investigation to investigate the death of many dogs for poisoning in the MAIUAátá, Rural Igarapé-Miri, the northeastern region of Pará.
The Municipal Prosecutor’s Office, under the responsibility of Public Prosecutor Harrison Henrik da being Bizira, was on the site this week to start steps to protect the animal issue. The case was issued last Wednesday (30).
During the visit, the Public Prosecutor examined the situation in which animals were already found without life, and they were asked for evidence, certificates and photos of security cameras that could help identify the perpetrators of the crime.
According to MPPA, a new technical visit is scheduled to be held for the coming days, with the aim of listening to the population, community leaders, local authorities and potential witnesses, as well as searching for material effects that may support the investigation.
The prosecution established news about the truth – a measure that represents the beginning of the official investigation – in order to clarify the conditions of the crime, identify officials and ensure the due criminal and environmental responsibility.
The public prosecution service has severely denied any form of animal violence and stressed that issues such as poisoning are framed as a crime stipulated in Article 32, Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2, Federal Law No. 9.605/1998, known as Environmental Crime Law.
The penalty for those who practice dogs against dogs can reach five years of prison, as well as a fine and prohibition of animal custody.
In addition to punishing the perpetrators, MPPA also intends to adopt preventive measures to avoid new situations and enhance awareness of respect for animal life, as guaranteed by the Federal Constitution and the environmental legislation in force.
