COP30: Earth’s use is set artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a revolution in maps drawing to use land in Brazil. UNESP researchers use this technology to analyze satellite data with great accuracy.

In partnership with the National Institute of Space Research (INPE), the UNESP team has developed a methodology that combines artificial intelligence with satellite geoomans. The goal is to obtain a clearer and accurate picture of the Brazilian lands, which cover various environmental and agricultural aspects.

Real time and careful monitoring

The new tool is able to record activities such as deforestation and burning forests, mapping the river cycles, as well as monitoring the development of agricultural harvest. This multi -faceted approach allows a deeper understanding of environmental effects and helps in planning the agricultural sector.

One of the researchers participating in the project explained: “To investigate what is and where, because what we have today is a state of very large uncertainty associated with the use of lands and coverage. You have estimates of harvesting that are then corrected.”

The methodology was tested in Mato Grosso, as it reached an impressive 95 % accuracy rate in maps. This level of accuracy is a great progress in the ability to monitor and understand the changes in land use.

Effects on agriculture and the environment

For the agricultural sector, the tool can be of special value. An expert also pointed out: “The farmer must bet against the climate, he must bet against the administration, against logistical services. That is, you are planted today and do not know the amount of harvest.”

With more accurate and updated data, farmers will be able to make more enlightened decisions, which may increase the efficiency and sustainability of their operations.

The application of this technology is not limited to agriculture. Define monitoring of forest removal areas and burning spread dramatically can help in environmental preservation policies and combat illegal activities that weaken Brazilian ecosystems.
