Carlos Slim Haley creates a business Titan and 6% of the GDP of Mexico. Once in the world’s richest person, Slim is a self -made billionaire, and he has designed the face of modern Mexico.
Slim started as a civil engineer, but at the age of 25, he had already run his own investment company. During the economic crisis of the 1980s, Slim saw the opportunity to see others disaster. He broke the struggling businesses like Sanforn and General Tire, creating the foundation for his powerhouse joint company, Grubo Carzo.
But his real game changed in 1990. Because the Mexican government privatized Telmex, a national telephone company, Slim bought a control stock with international partners. That bold move introduced him to the world of Telecom and led him to Latin America’s largest mobile supplier, America.
Slim didn’t stand there. He has invested everything from construction to mining, and by 2015, he became the largest personal partner of the New York Times. Today, his companies operate in 49 countries and use more than 350,000 people.
Always close to power halls, Slim is now supporting President Shinbam’s “Plan Mexico”, promising to invest in infrastructure, energy and telecommunications to supercar the country’s growth. He believes that he can help the Mexico business to win the strong relations between the voice supporter of the open investment and the strong relations between Mexico and the United States, and the trading challenges like Trump.
In the latest installation of our “Who” Political Primmer, Maria Mellandez asks if Carlos Slim can be a secret weapon, and Shinbam want to “plan Mexico”? Can Mexico help the global trade barriers? Abandon your thoughts in the comments below!
