Therefore, I am fully convinced that we responded to what the Holy Spirit referred to, and the fourteenth of the fourteenth is to reduce the Pope who God wanted and wants it to the church and the world at the times we live.

What are the reactions in your country during these severe weeks, from the death of Francisco to the election of Pope Lyon?

After the great pain that everyone felt with the death of Pope Francis, this depth this. Because only certainty of living and resurrection in Christ can allow thousands of crying hearts to explode in rejoicing with the announcement of the new Pope. This fills the heart and explains that God speaks to men and women of our time.

Samaha, nearly two years of WYD from Lisbon 2023 – and this “All, everything, everything!” From Pope Francis – Who was the protagonist in your institution, what remains of this event in the diocese of Cital and the colon in the Portuguese Church?

International Youth Day continues like radio waves. Nearly two years have passed – with more years since Wyds of Panama, Krakow, Madrid and others – but it is still a continuous flow, said Pope Francis, the beloved. We are at a stage of increasing assimilation of the three special meetings of WYD. The first is that young people are with each other, and the importance of the culture of the meeting, which follows its path, especially with regard to the possibility of building bridges between the Catholic youth and youth without faith and youth in search of God. The other is the meeting with the successor of Pedro, and I can testify both in WYD that I lived with Pope Francis and in Benedict XVI, how important this meeting is with Pedro for youth. Finally, above all, there is a meeting with Christ alive. The meeting, which still behaves in the hearts of many young people and wants to change their lives. In our dioceses and dioceses, we have long gathered the fruits that WYD planted in Lisbon, which caused them to motivate, promote, force them, and summon young people to pastoral youth, when there was before lack of interest. Wyd put young people on the confrontation line and now we cannot lose that motivation, that movement. Today’s slogan was “Maria woke up and left without delay”, and we cannot lose that on the calf that drives them to be builders in the future. A future is now looking at the youth meeting in Rome with Pope Liu XIV and also in the next WSP in Korea.

From this perspective, is there any message you want to give young people?

For all young people, especially for different countries of Portuguese, I would like to say what Pope Francis repeated: Opening ourselves to the surprises of God. I, a young man from Leça Do Balio, Matosinhos, in northern Portugal, never thought about my life that will become a priest, bishop, Cardinal. I didn’t imagine the participation in one of the provinces. For this reason we must allow God to touch our heart. For all young people, even those who live difficulties, wars, poverty … allowing God to enter their hearts. They open their hearts to the surprises of God. Do not be afraid, Liu said the fourteenth, Pordek 16 said, and John Paul II expressed in 1978. They open the doors of the heart to Christ. With the courage we mentioned before: The brave youth in the face of the tribulations that they can face in the family, at work, at school, in health … do not fall on the ground, as Pope Francis said. And now, on our way – you have, beside us and in front of us – we have a lion, our Leo XIV.
