On Tuesday (1), Brazil assumed the presidency of the Permanent Council of the American Organization (OAS)-the most important political body of the institution after the General Assembly.
It is up to the Council to supervise the implementation of the states adopted by member states in the areas of strengthening and defending democracy, human rights, social issues, legal issues, international law, security in the hemisphere, administrative affairs and budget in the organization.
“Under the Presidency of the Permanent Council, Brazil will direct its steadfast commitment to multiple parties and international law, and work to improve the rules of procedures to increase transparency, the possibility of prediction and legal certainty in negotiations and negotiations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
As a president, the country will preside over preparatory work and negotiations with the final documents of the General Assembly.
