Very dark hair, slightly full in the area above the head, and some wrinkles on the forehead like those who used to frown. The face of the tight small eyes on the other side. This is Blue Barqueiro, a figure filmed in one of Louise Braga, which is the fictional archipelago exhibition, shown at the IMS Institute in Sao Paulo.
The reference in contemporary Brazilian photography, Braga 50 years of profession celebrates this show, which brings 190 unpublished photos. There are five decades of daily life records, culture and Amazon landscapes.
In the year, the Amazon is more evidence, as it will host the city of Belém Cop30, and this diving in the work of Braga goes beyond political discussions, focuses on the population who live in forests daily and is directly affected by climate issues.
Under the sponsorship of Bitu Cassundé and the assistance of Maria Louisa Minsis, the exhibition is the result of an intense work of indulgence in the wide photographer collection. “The process is complicated, because the place of the trustees is the place it chooses. Louise Braga was born in Pilem (Pennsylvania), in photographing his youth, and he initially behaves in the advertisement. At the same time, he studied architecture at the Federal University of Para (UFPA). From 1979, he began holding individual exhibitions and cooperation with cultural institutions throughout the country.
In nine objective nuclei, the “imaginary archipelago” offers the diversity of topics and curricula to make Braga. The first sections combine black and white pictures, the beginning of their production. Indeed in others, intense use and expression of colors – the distinctive through which the photographer is widely identified – is highlighted – with the performance of modern records mainly on Marajó Island, where it was developing a continuous work in the past two decades.
The exhibition reveals the strong artist’s association with the Amazon lands and its inhabitants. Scenes from the Círio de Nazaré procession, Ribeirinho Daily, the structure of services and even a symbolic image of a woman walking along the Transamazônica Highway, which was taken in 1996.

Intimate scenes and night visions

Among the series “Nightvision – Eden Map”, which started in 2006. It was developed during the transition from analog to digital, the series explores the limits of the camera in low lighting environments. The result is the green silver images that create a dreamer and wonderful atmosphere of Amazon, and it is a difficult visual photographer in the region.
“This honor in IMS is a great prize, which is presented in such an important place, such a strong way. So I think this is a dream. I am very happy,” said Braga.
The fictional “Archipelago” is displayed until August 31 and provides accessories, such as touch panels and sound description.
