A new title for Portugal? Understand the history of Mimi “Brazilian Goyana”

In recent weeks, the dispute between the Brazilians and Portuguese has gained strength on social networks, all because of Mimi is somewhat strange, as Portugal gained the title.Brazilian Guyana“.

Meme has gained a prominent position on platforms like X, Bluesky and Tiktok by quoting the country as a “extension” of Brazil – both for its size on the map and the country’s population – and for the continuous Portuguese. However, the Portuguese was not very happy with the Brazilian joke. But how was the meme that dominated social networks?

Mimi’s birth

Everything began in November 2024, when the women’s football team in Barcelona signed the Portuguese player Kika Nazareth. Kika was announced on the team’s social networks in a fairly similar way to what is used in Brazil, using the expression “Speak, Guys!”

It turned out that after the announcement, many Portuguese users complained of using the expression, accusing the “Brasileirism” team and the lack of commitment to the use of phrases that are not part of the Portuguese daily life.

With the controversy gained more and more forces on social networks, of course the complaint came to the Brazilians, who decided to take the joke for themselves and created the term “Brazilian Guyana”, to refer to the Lusite country as a new extension of Brazil.

The controversy (and the joke) continues

Over time, the expression gained greater strength, and many Portuguese influencers began to try to reflect the situation. One of these influencers, known as Nokas, has published many videos on Tiktok in which he appears complaining about jokes that involve the “other stolen return” from Brazil, and the use of his country as a “Brazilian colony”, and the fact that the Brazilians find the Portuguese dialect to some extent “old”.

With the repercussions between the Lusitani influencers, the Brazilian Internet users decided to make the most of the situation and gave new titles to “Brazilian Guyana”, which only increased controversy. Now, you can see names such as “Pernambuco Quorted”, “Walking Strip” and “Mato Grosso Do Norte” and other creative borrowed names increasingly to refer to Portugal – along with many videos and pictures that convert “the land” into a piece of Brazil.
