On April 2, President Donald Trump announced a package of tariffs ranging in 10 % and 50 % for a list of 185 countries. Mexico and Canada have fought “mutual rates” known, although it was previously affected by 25 % of aluminum and steel, as well as another 25 % for car and vehicles in “non -American” content. The third element – so that it is not applied, but is still latent – is associated with immigration and fentianil.

Before Trump’s approach, many digital analysts did not hesitate to cross the “Protection, Jabawiya and Dangerous” scale. There was also support from various American sectors that praised this measure as a defense in the local industry. In this context, it is worth the question: Is it really a “madness” from Trump, or is there anything else?

In my opinion, it is wrong to want to explain the issue of customs tariffs under the traditional logic of international trade. In fact, I think, in this exclusive situation, the proposal does not contain feet or head. This is a bet – one long -term – its goal is to sit on the table to the main global actors to weave new agreements based on the changes that the world has suffered:

1. “Imagine” the increasing gap between the rich and the poor deepens more with the emergence of decentralization mechanisms to reach the mass to the information. The recent vote in the United States showed the dangerous prevailing divisions in the world. Politicians like Trump and the strength of his states are “a result, does not cause” this division.

2. In this context, the popular support that declined globalization collapsed. Voters such as Trump sees themselves “affected” by the “concentration of wealth in a few hands.”

For this reason, I consider that the subject of customs tariffs will be only short, while: 1) clearly defines the way in which Chinese products, called the Mexicans, to the United States (for example steel and aluminum); 2) Negotiating the way it will work to “replace import” and the investment plan in the region; 3) It constitutes a new scaffolding coordinated for regional supervision in the hemisphere in which customs and the forces of the three countries will play a fundamental role.

President Shinbom has wide popular support. This opportunity has been opened that Mexico is entirely for the major championships of political geography and global leadership. #Socatedadhorizontal can actively participate in building agreements that come, generating alliances that exceed the borders. It is not a good relationship that depends on good treatment and simplifying the concept of sovereignty, it is alignment with interests that can redefine the performance of the world order.
